19's on e43, too large?

Am I being rediculous in thinking I'd meaningfully prefer 18 inch rims on the e43 that I ordered? My concern is that 19 inch rims don't have enough rubber in a car this size. It is not an over the top racer like an e63 but my luxury sedan everyday ride, I want not only speed and handling but comfort. Additionally they are run flats which are harder to begin with. I asked my dealership to request 18 inch rims but they refuse to do so, not even sure if they called Stuttgart or not or just don't care to bother. Any opinions if Stuttgart would special order 18's or would they insist car tuned for 19's or 20's? Thanks. Regards. Ned.

Do the rotors even fit in an 18 inch rim on an e43? I know on the e63, 18 inch rims won't fit.

Here's an E63:

Great question. I would appreciate if the dealer just told me that, I'd be satisfied. The e63 might have bigger breaks, I suppose I could compare. Thanks. Regards. Ned.

My 2014 e63S is my daily driver and has 19's and I ride in S+ and I find it very comfortable

however I found my 2014 E550 sedan MORE comfortable with the oem 18" Amg rims

I just don't think the e43 will look good with 18" rims

i think you will be fine in the 19's

its an Amg, buyer beware these cars are a departure from the luxury cruisers the traditional E class is supposed to be ...

Do not forget that W213 rides on 1" higher diameter tires (1/2" per sidewall) than W212, so even with 19" wheels, W213 rides on identical sidewall hight tires (245/40-19 for W213 vs. 245/40-18 for W212) of close to 4". Of course E43's ride on 19s will not be as buttery smooth as E300's on 18s, but it still going to be much smoother than W212's.

I have debated the 18 vs 19 size wheel and could have strong arguments going both ways.

But I do like the look of 19s and have ordered my E300 with them. And I will be buying Wheel and Tire protection to cover the tire bubbles, bent rims that will definitely happen driving in NJ and NY.

I personally think the 18s may have too much rubber for a car like the E43. After driving the E300 with both the 18s and 19s, I settled on the 19s because the steering felt muted on the 18s. It would be a shame to have stepped up to the E43 only to not fully enjoy throwing her around when the need arises.

Do you have the air body control option? That in theory should help the ride quality over rough surfaces. There is an incredible amount of technology in these cars, almost a bit scary. Thanks. Regards. Ned.

How you been, we used to converse on the 212 forum after I bought my e550 back in 2010. Who was the scribe/gadfly who traded in his e350 for the BMW 5 series and wrote tomes about how pitiful our Mercedes were? I think they refer to such people as trolls these days but I enjoyed the heated banter, to a point! You ever drive an Audi s8? Considering a cpo low mileage as alternative to e43, despite totally different mindset, similar price. Regards. Ned.

Yes I do remember, Ned. I think it was KA"something" who seems to be gone for good now. I like most Audis (but only after MBs). Love S8/A8 interiors, but not the exterior (had and liked previous generation A8's exterior more) and I would also take a look at S7 as well (love S7/A7 exterior, but not interior - if Audi would make an A8/A7 or S8/S7 hybrid, I would buy it immediately). Personally I'm so deeply into MBs, that I'll stay on for forceable future, however am not happy with the direction MB is taking.

E43 AMG 2017
Hi to all.
I want to get new rims for winter tires. I went to MB in Toronto today and they gave me some ridiculous answer that only one style (star) rim can fit as the offset for fronts are only 20 and rears 48 not more and not less. No other sizes other then 19" can be installed for winters. WTF!
Do you know were can I find info about wheels and tires I can install on E43 2017.
Thank you in advance.

According to tirerack the E 43 will work just fine with 245/45/18. Which is exactly the same tire/wheel combo I have for my winter set on my C 400 and which I plan to continue with on my E 43. I certainly would not recommend those for summer tires, however, since first of all they are all the same width thus removing any advantage due to staggering width AND secondly, 18's will look dorky on an AMG. The E63 has even bigger brakes than the E43 and will not fit 18 inch rims. The difference between the E43 "AMG" brakes and the E400 "Mercedes" brakes is mostly the painted logo. both are almost the same diameter four piston design. The E 63 uses a larger 6 piston caliper or, optionally, the ridiculously expensive ceramic brakes which are great on track but useless on the street. Ceramic rotors are fantastic on a race track since they have very high heat resistance but suck on the street since they have to be very hot for them to work at their best, thus, unless you are driving at 100mph everywhere they perform no better or worse than "regular" steel rotors.
For summer or all season tires, 19's will work as intended, look great and have a comfortable ride. NO they will not provide the ride of a 78 Cadillac Broughham

but who wants a ride like that anyway

To find the offset you have to go into the wheel/ tire package area. simply fill out their wizard with the model year etc, then go to the winter tire/wheel package option. There is only one available rim in silver or black (for the 18)The 19 also has one available rim in three colors which is absolutely hideous. The offset is included in the rim description.
Unfortunately, but predictably, I discovered that my present C400 rims will not work on my new E43 since the offset is different between the C and e models
