A Mercedes pickup truck, say it isn't so.

I've always liked trucks, and now my favorite maker, Mercedes, is making one. There's a strong possibility I'll pick one up when my w212 kicks the bucket.

There's nothing wrong with the expansion of a brand to appeal to new enthusiast. Not everyone wants a W212 Sedan - Different strokes for different folks
IF Mercedes is successful with this segment, I expect other "luxury" brands to try and take a bite of their new market share.

Other luxury brands such as Cadillac and Lincoln already has a pick up truck model and sales numbers has been horrible. I agree that not everybody wants a W212 sedan, but if I were shopping for a pick up truck, it sure would not be a Mercedes. Ford, Chevy and GM has such a lock in this market segment in the US, its hard to imagine anybody taking that away from them.

Hmmm, maybe this won't be coming to the U.S. anytime soon.

The R class is no mini van, it some sort of half breed. It doesn't have a sliding door or the typical minivan seating configuration. Every time I see a R class on road, it makes the hair on my arm stand up.

Yeah, if you go back into the R-class archives during its development, it was really going to be a very unique and sexy luxo people hauler. It never came to pass, however and what was built and released never gained any traction. They were heavily discounted almost immediately. It is no Minivan, however.

the B class is MBs take on a minivan imo.
the R class...is more like a people mover. and i wouldnt mind driving this very rare R63...
for a proper MB van, this is what i can think of. the Vito.
sorry for a lil OT.
a ute/pick up is what it is. most people buy is for the bed at the back. but i guess an MB might just be too precious for hauling stuff.
much like the bentley 4x4...
when was the last time you heard somebody say..."oh were goin off roading? let me just get my Bentley then..."

Mercedes, like every other auto manufacturer, has to compete in every market segment in order to stay competitive. All in all, the pickup doesn't look bad and MB is pretty smart to partner with Nissan to off-load some of the financial risk associated with the move.

Not a fan of how the grill makes the front end look like a cyclops, but I bet if they do an AMG version it will be awesome.
