Location of Crankshaft Position Sensor on 07 SL55 AMG?

So I'm sure you've all heard this a million times - CPS problem

I'm having the same problem everyone else is having with my R230 cranking, not starting and going dead randomly on the street. Before I take it to the shop I read the forums here and realized it might be the CPS --- I picked one up on Amazon for around $30 and wanted to replace it myself --- but I can't for the life of me figure out where it's located .... and can't seem to find any photos anywhere on where to look.

I'm usually pretty handy with these kinds of things and have DIYed everything on my car --- but I can't find the CPS anywhere and I feel like a moron - seeking the advice of anyone who can point me in the right direction on my 07 SL55.

I know it's supposed to be somewhere on the side or behind the engine but I'm at a loss.

if anyone has the R230 and have a photo or some info on where exactly the CPS is located you would be a Godsend.

Thanks guys in advance

it is in the same position as on an E55, this thread should show you everything you need

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...-diy-pics.html

It is underneath the throttle body on the rear of the engine. It is on the driver's side rear of the engine to be exact.

Hey, how do you know that you have a CPS problem----you may have wasted some money on cheap Chinese crap!!

Wait for the diagnostics and if you get confirmation go for it!!(driver rear side--use a flashlight)

Thanks

Thanks guys - I guess I don't know for sure if it's a CPS issue for sure yet - honestly I'm scared to take it to the dealer because I don't know if it will die on my on the way - it seems to happen when the temperature rises above normal running temp. when driving.

I was thinking it might be the CPS because of the telltale signs:

- Engine cranks, won't start
- Dies randomly
- When it dies, waiting until engine cools down and it starts back up
- When engine gets warm again, it dies like clockwork when it's around oil temp is right around 95C

Based on everyone else having these same issues on MBW, I'm hoping it's the same thing and not something bigger - that would suck as I'm looking to trade this in for the newer 2014 SL - and this problem just happened a a few days before I was going to do the trade...worst timing ever, of course...

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Sounds like the CPS to me. Carry a bottle of water and pour on the CPS when it dies - that sometimes cools it off and brings it back to life temporarily.

Thanks guys - I'm attempting to replace this today. I can't seem to find any images for CPS location on the R230 anywhere, so if I can get it done properly, I'll be sure to post some pics. Maybe it will be helpful to someone else in the future...fingers crossed

It is the exact same as the E55. I have both cars & can verify.

I feel like an idiot but I'm having a hard time location the CPS in my 07 SL55 AMG. I went through the tutorial for the E55 link you posted, but can't seem to figure it out on my car.

Does anyone have a photo by chance or can give me some more input on which wire is the CPS? I'm trying to locate the bolt and match up the photos but I can't figure out which wire is the right one - there's quite a few

Crap - I think Amazon sent me the wrong page - I got the sensor off and went to plug it in but the part I got has 3 prongs - but the plug in my car has 2 prongs. Do you guys know which one is correct? I feel like it's supposed to be the 2 prong - do I have the wrong part?
