2014 E63 Headlight Beam Too Low

I have a 2014 E63S and the headlight beams are way too low....scary low. They are so low I am not comfortable drivnig much at night (on darker roads).

The car was at the dealer yesterday and one of the issues I wanted corrected was the low headlight beams. They stated they were auto leveling (I knew that) and NOT adjustable.

So, am I stuck with beams that shine about 50' in front of the car or is there some other way to adjust them?

I saw an older post that somebody had the beams adjusted up to the high side of "spec", but didn't know if that was for an auto-leveling headlight setup.

TIA

Hey! I actually had the exact same issue you did on my 2014 E550 with obviously lighting package. But my issue happened after a car incident where the headlights were aimed so low i was afraid of driving at night. I would only see approximately 8ft ahead.

It was horrible and scary. To help with your issue what they are saying is false. I was told that same thing, that they are auto leveling and that they attach a mechanism to the headlights to check the leveling of the headlights. But in reality they can be hand adjusted. How? I am not sure as i had my SA do that for me. Mind you in order for them to do this i had to complain two times and it got the job done.

Hope you get it fixed because it is definitely unsafe driving at night.

Connect the car to DAS and perform a Zero point adjustment and it should calibrate the lense angle.

Thank you both for your input. The next time the car is at the dealership I will ask for the zero point adjustment.

mine from the factory were slightly lower than i would like them to be, or how i had them on my past car. so i went to a wall at night and with an allen key(forgot the size, its metric) you can adjust each headlight.

Really? You can adjust the auto-leveling LED headlights?

Yep. Did it on my 2016... I believe the auto leveling is if your driving, hit the brakes. The headlights will aim up so you can see. It's not when on a tilt or something like that. I may be wrong but that's my guess. Manually leveling them like how I did, did not mess up the auto level feature.

OK, thanks. Worth a look I guess. I will go tinker around and see if I can figure it out.

It's auto leveling but it still has a limited range of motion. You can still move the headlights left and right and up and down. It's very tricky, though, because such movements of the entire unit also affect the gap between the headlight and the surrounding body panels, bumper, etc. Of course, you also need to have an correct alignment height, distance from wall, etc which I believe is available MB. Or you can try to get the data and draw the line and distance on a wall and do it at night. I did that around 14 years ago with another car with pop-up headlights, which were easy to do since they don't affect surrounding alignment. With this car, it's a big headache. My lights are obviously not even, but I have given up on it already.

No, the Allen key moves the projector itself. That's inside the housing. I just did slight adjustments. That's all

Interesting. Maybe I will try again. The question now is, which headlight is at the correct height?

If it's darker on one side than the other you can see the difference on a dark night. The beam wont travel far. Move it up a hair so you gain some light in the distance. Takes some testing

I read some where that the lighting systems on today's cars are inadequate. They prefer design over safety.

I tried it and it worked. I drew a line on my garage wall to start, then bumped the beam up a bit on both sides. I then drove around and tested it, etc., readjusted, etc, etc. Seems pretty good now.

As far as lighting output, I think the LED light output is superior to anything I have ever had (halogen, Xenon). The LED's on my wife's Lexus are superb. The MB is a close second.

Yeah, there was a test of headlight performance on today's cars, most did poorly. They did not test our LED lights, and I will say the headlights on my '14 are by far the best headlights used thus far.

Yup. I agree with E63 Tony. You can adjust easily with an Allen key. Size is 6mm if I'm not mistaken.

Does someone have a picture showing where the adjustments can be made?
