Larger screen possible in 2014 C300 W204?

Hello,

Some background: I'm new here in this forum and new to owning a Mercedes. I just bought a 2014 C300 4Matic Sport with 21K miles and so far I'm very happy with my new ride. I'm coming from (European) Audi and VW diesel cars and got stung here in the US by the VW diesel scandal. My 2013 Passat SEL is being bought back by VW next Tuesday.

About my new car: one thing seems strange in my C300, the unexpectedly small 5.5 inch screen.

Has anyone here retrofitted a larger screen and can share some pics and experiences?

You totally can retrofit the larger 7" COMAND screen, I am just not sure if you need the COMAND unit as well.

It would be awesome if this can be done fairly easily. If I had to remove the entire dashboard to get this done, I am out! lol

Just the pieces around the screen and possibly the radio. I think I've seen a guide somewhere.

you need to remove part of the dash board, buy a new speed cover which is all one piece to the display screen.

so you have audio 20 you want the bigger navi set up?

the cost is $3500CAD at a dealer ship, that includes installation.(ever dealer charges a different amount you need to call and find out)

they will not install none OEM parts so they force you to buy the stuff from them.

I need to find my quote. the parts i believe was $1500 which is expensive and the other $1500 was labour lol...

I mean if they offered full HK speakers and the navi upgrade for $3500 id say its well worth it but just for the larger screen and navi to pay $3500 is crazy.

what comes in the package:
Larger display for navi
radio unit
spedo and navi cover to fit the larger screen.
labour

I'm looking more for a clever and creative after-market or DIY solution, by simply removing the existing small screen and replacing that with a larger screen by 'opening' the existing hole in the the surrounding black mesh-like piece.

Is that possible?

ummmm all after market stuff is scary... you can buy a touch screen unit with the cover for like $1000 but there are ZERO reviews and you'll void your warranty lol.
its all made in china if you risk it let me know how it goes.

this is the only example i could find

see how its all one piece.

http://www.ebay.ie/itm/2012-MERCEDES...4AAOSwu1VW4B7b

your really not gaining anything by adding this and a bigger screen I'm unsure if it will even work.

Thanks for this link, looks interesting. I just asked them what this costs, but I agree this would be a gamble.

i wouldn't go with that one, thats just an example of what you will find. Call your dealer maybe they will give you a better deal.

honestly we are limited and it sucks, my biggest regret with my car is not finding one with HK audio and navi, but hey you live and you learn.

Agreed. Where do you live Marko? Your profile shows you're in Ontario, I was wondering why you need HK (Hong Kong?) audio and nav?

EDIT: Forget my question, I just realized HK means Harman Kardon to you. I lived in Hong Kong a while ago, I guess that's why my brain made me write this question.

Yeah I seen similar screen upgrade packages before on Ebay. The bad thing is there are no reviews to go off of so it's a gamble
@Marko I feel you on the live and learn part. When I got my 2013 CPO I didn't wait to find one with the lighting package. Now I wish I had. Halogens in a 2013 luxury vehicle smh

I just got a reply from the Chinese vendor, in case anyone is interested, here is the email thread:
________________________
Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I’ll make a photo of the dashboard and send it to you tomorrow. About the DVD player, is that needed to make the larger screen work? I really don’t need it, I just want to get a larger screen and leave everything else as it currently is, I already have navigation in my car.

Thank you,
-Herbert

Subject: [Inquiry] I'm interested

Hello,

I have a 2014 Mercedes C300 4Matic Sport (W204).
I'm interested in the "Mercedes-benz C Class 2012-2014 car dvd gps navigation system multimedia radio player" listed on your website.
I have some questions:
– Will your product fit in my car?
– How much does it cost in US$, shipped to the USA?
– Is the DVD player required for this setup, and will the DVD player fit in the dash next to the existing COMMAND and AUDIO 20 system?

Thank you,
-Herbert

are you going to get it? I've found ones that looked better and the options were solid minus a few things. the ones i found you could swap back from touch to dial, watch dvds ect.
i need to find the quotes from a year ago if i still have them in my inbox.

At this point I'm not sure if I'll get it. I'm just engaging with them, and step by step we'll find out if it's worth it.

It would be great if you could share your version once you find it.

Thank you!

Thanks for sharing Marko, much appreciated! This looks very similar to the Chinese model you shared earlier, though having the vendor close(er) by is an advantage.

I'm not yet fully convinced this is the way to go if I simply want a larger screen, seems very involved and a bit more complicated than what I've expected.

I tried to get it for a lot cheaper but no luck

Hi Mark,

Thanks very much for your inquiry. We do carry this OEM fit navigation and DVD system for Mercedes Benz C-Class (2012-2014) . May I ask which year is it? Due to the cost and shipping cost of this system. We can only offer a discount if purchase 2 systems or more at the same time. The discount is $ 50 for each system. We really look forward to do the business with you and will be so appreciated if you can promote our company to MBWorld.

The premium model comes with the newest Mercedes software interface (UI) and newest map for US and Canada. It also supports the original steering wheel control and stock sound system as well. Other than that, this navigation system comes with GPS (US & Canada), DVD Movie Playback, Bluetooth (Phone Call, Phone Book, Music), USB Media Supported, IPOD Ready, Steering Wheel Control......etc. During the promotion period, we do also offer the licence of life-time update of the map for free. Here is the price breakdown for this Navigation DVD system: I have also attached some pictures of the premium model in the email just for your reference.

1) Premium Ver. GPS system: $ 749

2) Installation GPS (Included Licence of Life time Update): $ 100

We also carry another cheaper version which is $50 lower than the premium model. This model is slower and the audio quality will be different than the premium model (Lack of DSP Audio Processor).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at (647) 962-3113 and we will be more than happy to assist you. We are located on 1531 Warden Ave., Toronto (Warden and 401). Our office hour is Monday to Saturday (10:00am - 7:00pm). Welcome to our store to take a look. You can also give us a call before you come over so we can make some arrangement for you. Thanks very much again and have a nice day.

That picture up at the top of the ad and where they show it uninstalled looks a lot bigger than 6.95" That is looks like quite a wide aspect ratio. They mention 6.95", yet down in the specification list it mentions a 9" monitor?

Plus, where the display is mounted in the W204 having a touch screen there is kind of impractical. Too far away and hard to reach.
