Swapping my Comand NTG 2.5 head for EU model!
I finally found an EU Comand NTG 2.5 head that fits my W164 2009 ML550. (I moved to Germany more than a year ago and have been struggling to find one at a reasonable price -and- with a current database.)
That means I will be removing the US head and putting it for sale, and I will offer it here first because I always get help and good advice from this forum. The unit has the 2014 US database, installed by the Mercedes dealer in downtown Boston MA. (I do not know how to get the unit anti-theft code unlocked, so I will ship it to you with a copy of my title and vehicle purchase receipt; you will either need to get it unlocked or have it installed at a dealer).
If you are interested, send me a PM. Yes, I am in Germany, but shipping from here to the US is cheaper than the other way around, and there are no import duties to be paid since the unit comes from a car assembled in the US.

I am being told by a tech here in Germany that replacing the Comand NTG 2.5 head from a US model to an EU model is only part of the work, because the radio receiver is supposedly under one of the seats, and has to be replaced as well.

Completed the work. Nav, rear camera, interface to steering wheel controls, bluetooth, Harman Kardon... everything works perfect. But as I expected, the radio doesn't work because the tuner is in the central gateway box under the driver's seat and that is a US model box. I have to change that to an EU box, or install an EU tuner.
Unfortunately, the nav voice is British. I need something different... like Irish. Not Scottish. Too bad I can't install Garmin's Yoda.

I've come across this set of circumstances more than once before. Just curious how you arrive at the decision to take a 6 year old US based vehicle to Germany? Will the vehicle eventually be sold in Germany or do you plan to bring it back to the USA?

I enjoy the vehicle, it loves the autobahn, the model has never been sold in Germany and it has a resale value higher than in the United States. I can sell it or take it back. Can go either way.
