GL350 OM642 Engine knock (Loud)
Hello, I just went through the adventure of the dreaded oil leak fix, New purple futon seal installed amongst other needed gaskets. While doing this I noticed the Turbo vane damaged from the silicone intake gasket falling apart,- -sooo, I sent it to Pavel's racing shop for a new cartridge installed. (Thanks Pavel) $400.00
And after running great for a week, I am getting an intermittent knock. Sometimes it goes away completely, then comes back for a while and disappears again. It sounds like a rod knock, but I've never heard a rod knock come and go minutes between like that.
Any ideas about a deep knock on these?
Thanks
Clint

somebody dropped something in the intake during the seal replacement procedure? also, were you missing any pieces of the turbo impeller/ vanes/ etc? if you did- they got sucked in.
it took some time for the foreign object to migrate to a place where it can make noise.
get a stethoscope and listen carefully to determine where the noise comes from... it also could be from the front of the engine - high pressure fuel pump, tensioner/ chain, pulley bearing... etc...

Belt pulled off in this video. The sound is intermittent as it may disappear for a few minutes and return. I ran the compression check on DAS and #1 is 175 as the other 5 cylinders are 230-240
I'm wondering if carbon, sludge, or something else made it bend or drop a valve?
Here's the video link to it

Daaaayyuumm....
Something that may be worth checking is the timing chain tensioner. Right above alternator and below passenger valve cover. When I had the timing chain replaced at 62k the end was hammered, and it was hyper extended. Made me wonder if it pushed out of its bore what it would do.
Sounds like a valve train issue which would be better than the big end.

This is top end noise. Main bearings sound nothing like that... it is too much of a conicnidence that this happens after oil seals replacement. This does sound as a foreign object in there as it comes and goes- something moves to interfere and then moves back to where it doesn't. I stick to my previous guesses...
