SL/R129: 2nd Edition - How Old are the R129 Owners?
#76
I am 64. Bought my 94 129 March 2003 and have driven it over 60k miles with few problems - it now has close to 180k miles on it. It is two tone green and I put a British Racing Green top on it in 04. Love the car.
I've got an 06 R500 too, but the 129 is my driver.

My new (for me) R129
I am 51. I picked up this 99 SL500 Sport at the local MB dealer in Laguna Niguel. This is my first MB and R129 after many years of American muscle cars from Trans AMs to 455 Olds monster cars. The performance of the SL plus its awesome looks and rock solid construction have sold me.
I got this sweetheart with 61,200 miles in May of this year. I added 19" Brabus wheels with Pirelli Rosso tires and that's all it needs! I still marvel at some of the looks I get when driving around.

It changes all the time
I'm 62 and just bought a 97 SL320. Paid cash. I kinda looked for one with a blown engine or something, but this real nice ruby collored one came up , so I decided to buy one I could drive away. Actually I don't drive it much. My 52 year old wife wanted another convertable. I don't have anymore Fiat Spiders, our 67 230SL has been sitting in the garage for 10 years covered with junk, and my 71 280SL is sitting in another garage with the engine out. I took it out to have the engine compartment painted and never put it back in. I chose the 320 over the 500, because I don't need anymore power, and I like the 23 to 25 MPG. My wife rallys through the backroads every day to her job in Napa Valley. She drives the roadster like a slot car and still gets 19MPG.

1996 SL500 Sport
I am 48 and, for the moment anyway, still a member, although finances dictate that I'm going to have to sell my car...I know...sad, sad, SAD!
Its a 96 SL500 Sport, black black with 94,000 miles and I LOVE it! Absolutely the best, most fun car I have ever owned..and I've owned a BUNCH!
I recently sold my 68 Camaro SS convertible, and I thought THAT was a fun car..'til this one caame along!
A couple of years ago, I had a nicely restored 68 280SL Pagoda...Loved the look of it, and it handled well..but still nothing like the R129 !
Here is my soon to be departed baby!

97 SL500 Silver
You're never too old!
I'm recently turned 60 and I just sold my 10 year old E320 and bought a 97 SL500. I'm like a kid at Christmas! I owned a 944 S2 years ago which had much of the go but nowhere near as much of the style.....

I am almost 58... 1985 E300 Turbo-Diesel till 1997 then a 1998 E300 Turbo_Diesel until I found a red SL500 R129 with 28,000 miles 3 weeks ago.
I love it! A very good time to be single again!!!
Been in electronics all my life and being a non smoker, was always mad at the wasted space occupied by the ashtray. Removed ashtray module, made a simple bracket and harness and mounted my Sirius satellite radio inside the ashtray cavity...and it dissapears easily and out of site.
Simple and dirt-cheap Home Depot parts.
If anyone is interested I would be glad to post "how-to" pictures with a step-by-step....
Happy driving!!

How old am I , as a owner of a SL320 1999
Hi guys,
From Belgium, 56 years old and just bought a 87.000 kms( 54.000 Miles) SL 320, I have just a problem the ESP ABS BAS light is on, MB could not find the problem, Bosch does not know what a CJ110 defective contactor with a rotating rates defect might be or is located on the car???

1985 380 SL 2001 SL 500 2007 E350 Sport 2008 T & C Ltd.
Nice to see these cars geting into the hands of some "seasoned" drivers.
I was beginning to wonder if the young guys were having all the fun.

1996 Mercedes-Benz SL500
im with you there...
im 17. 1996 Maroon SL500. It was my grandfathers, and only had 20,000 miles on it when i took ownership a year ago. i loved the car, and had memories of riding in it when i was young, so i naturally gravitated towards this style.
[QUOTE=iamsuperchris;2381639]Wow! I'm very glad to hear that there are other young guys out there who drive these cars. I started to feel as if I should hurry up and put on some years !

We seem to be skewing younger this time around.
I'm 29. Just picked up my 2002 r129 500 about three months ago. 29,000 miles and runs like a dream. I traded in my 97 w140 s500 coupe, which I got when I was 24, for the SL. I still miss the old beast, but it was time to move on. I do miss getting the "where did you get a 2 door S class" questions though.

Im 20 and made some smart investment decisions so I have some money to play with. I have 5 W107 sl's, two 450slc's, a 380sl, 450sl, privately imported 280sl, and just bought my first R129 300sl, I also have a 300te wagon for family outings and such. but the R129 is the big toy right now, probly just as excited about that car as I am about my RHD 280sl!

1991 300 SL Roadster
I'm 47 and have had mine for a yr. I LOVE HER!!! I said when I was a Grandma I was gonna get my Mercedes! Well, after raising 4 kids pretty much alone, they are all grown and gone now. I am the proud Grandma of nine Grandchildren so far, and regretfully after wanting my Benz so bad for so long......it has no room for carseats! hehehe
I found that when I had my 2000 Lincoln Navigator, it always had grandkids with carseats and kids of all ages with their snacks also! GRRRRRRRRR! Yes, I am a picky Grandma and Mom! So, I then moved on to a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 4 dr sedan and that was a nice car but I was still wanting my Benz.....so needless to say, although it won't accomodate small children very well......I am LOVING every minute of my 91 300 SL!!!!
