1999 Mercedes Benz SL500 & 2009 E350 4Matic Wagon
Oil Change Questions
Now that the warrenty has run out on my 1999 SL500 I don't feel the need to spend in excess of $250 for an oil change.
That said, how hard is it to change the oil?
Is is true that the filter is not a "spin-on" but rather that it has a paper carterage?
As I live in a small town there are not a lot of choices for parts stores and the local CarQuest store had two filters available. One was their house brand for about $14.00 and the other was what they called an OEM brand made in Germany by Henqst for about $10 (an E11H D50 filter). As I remember the dealership (stealership) charged me in excess of $35 for a filter, however, I don't know if it was a Mercedes brand on something else?
Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated.

MB oil filters
I bought extra MB oil filters 2 years ago at the MB dealer for my 1999 SL500:
part #000-180-26-09 $21.28 each.

1999 500sl oil change
just finished changing oil on my 1999 500sl for first time. unscrew drain plug on oil pan located on passenger side of pan. (13mm) unscrew black plastic cap on oil filter housing(its located next to power steering reservoir. lift off cap filter will come with it. install four new "O" rings reinstall filter add oil "presto wammo" your done. you can get good quality oil filters for $10.00 at www.autopartswarehouse.com good luck
