'95 SL500 Test drive

Hi Guys,

Took the SL500 for a drive today and here are some things I found

Gearbox
Smooth gear changes, however overdrive took too long to engage. Low gears fine, no feathering but 3rd to overdrive somewhat hesitant. Is this usual? It was cold though and it really only got up to operating temp by the end of the drive. Is this usual?

Throttle
Throttle pedal was quite firm to press down. The yard did have the cable replaced. It worked perfectly but is it usually that firm?

Speedo and MPG/L per 100 guage were not working. They were last time I looked at it? Any ideas on what the issue could be?

I didn't have time to check soft top operation however I did see it working last time.

Any ideas/recomendations on the above would be much appreciated.

On the bright side, it looks like my potential offer of 4k below their sale price looks to be accepted by the owner.

Thanks
Mark

Did all part of the instrument cluster work? Once is not enough on the top! Latching down the hard top is worthy of your examination. Did you run the fan speeds on the AC? As you may have read the 93-95 R129's have harness issues.
Both forums have great information including a buyers guide. The time you spend on research will be a great investment, if nothing more than cocktail party chatter! The money to buy the car is pocket change next to the repair and restoration expenditures!

Everything worked except for the speedo and fuel economy gauge. Tachometer, fuel gauge, engine temp, warning lights all worked fine. Ran out of time to check the rest but will certainly do a thorough inspection before buying. Where can I find the thread on common faults for this model eg wiring harness etc. Had a look at stickies but could not find anything. AC worked well, ice cold, fan speeds worked well also.

Thanks
Mark
