99 V12 ECU upgrade chip coming up blank and exhaust

FYI it is a 1999 SL600 50k miles. Looking for a quality ECU upgrade chip and i'm not having any luck. I have Renntech looking into it but all searches on this site date back to 2004 or 2005 so the links no longer work. Does anyone still know where to get one of these upgrade chips. No EBAY crap just a proven name chip is what i want.

Also I want to replace the exhaust any recommendations out there for some nice and not obnoxious kits to buy? It is a weekend toy so i am not concerned with every day drive ability. hehe

Not sure about the chip, but you can always put an SL60 AMG exhaust on it. I did that on my SL600 when I had it.

I always wanted the old R129 SL70 AMG or a SL600 to mod the hell out of once my SL65 is done, but I can't find an SL70 AMG anywhere. I wish I could get my hands on an SL73 AMG or a Renntech SL74 but that's wishful thinking if I can find one for the right price.

Yea I lost my hope for a chip it drew a blank. Is that SL60 exhaust available still as a kit from someone I assume? Where did you get the kit from please. Thanks a ton.

It is not a kit. It is the real deal. The exhaust casts about $5000 from MB and is no longer available.

I found mine in Japan and delivered to my driveway it was about $880 but it took 3 months. If you go to the Yahoo Japan market, you can find them there. There are companies around that will proxy your purchase, meaning that they will buy on your behalf and get it shipped to you.

If you want more details about how I did it, let me know.

not to call you personally an idiot but it would be stupid to order an old exhaust... it would be cheaper to make one at a local place. go with a stainless steel pipe and mandrel bends... i got a complete custom one done up for $1,100 ss pipe x pipe 3" pipe 2 40 series flowmasters... i dont recomend this setup because it is way to loud for 99.99% of people. but 12-24 year old piping will not be in as good of condition. have you ever seen an old BMW exhaust they are always rusted out....

japan has good deals and good parts. but why not spend the same amount or less (maybe even a smidge more) for a quality NEW setup. youll have much more satisfaction and just because it has a star logo it will be over priced and not really all that better... an aftermarket setup will probably be lighter as well.

please fill out your location because if your in southern California i can recommend a place

Firstly, thanks for not calling me an idiot, per se! Second, I did this on my SL600 when I had it, for the sole reason that I don't like Flowmasters no matter how loud or not they are. A Flowmaster setup would always be louder than what I wanted.

I found several video clips on YouTube and the like where event SL500's sounded like a jet fighter under normal acceleration. The AMG exhaust i got was in great shape, a direct bolt on and sounded like I wanted. The best part is/was that it turned out being cheaper then what you got done at the local shop.

I am not sure about the weight savings, if anything i cannot be much.

some exhaust setups can drop 30lbs or more (not on this car maybe but in general)...

i didnt mean get a flowmaster sorry. just there are several aftermarket exhausts as options yes flowmasters do not = mercedes i understand. people think i have an LS swap for example... but like i think supersprint and eismann want over 1000USD just for a back box VS a flowmaster for 150USD that was what i was trying to convey.

the AMG exhaust is wonderful i am sure i wasnt trying to bash it just that it comes at a premium. and its not the box id be so concerned about as the pipes connecting the boxes... if you dont mind the cost then by all means it is the way to go. i totally agree!

just was saying dont get locked in thinking its the only option or the best. an informed consumer

and furthermore i didnt mean the post directed towards you sgaar i meant it to the op haha so no offense at all implied sorry for any hurt feelings i may have caused. and same to the op. i do not mean to attack by stupid... just as a consumer we like things cheap and reasonable hence the why pay more for something similar. but i totally understand the wanting OEM parts. i get all my parts (even fluids) from the dealer. which is pretty dumb to many people.

once again no harm meant.
