M119 v. M113 Throttle Body

Does anyone know if there's a functional difference (besides part numbers) between the TBs for M113 engines and M119 engines? I need a new TB for my 97 R129 with a M119 engine and it seems that the M113 TBs are more readily available and cheaper. They look pretty much the same.

i dont know them other than once getting a quote for a fuel dist and they were 2600 cheaper than anywhere else.... (all were rebuilt)

even if they look EXACTLY the same there will be differences no matter how small (Part number shows this)

it may work but probably not since Mercedes have strict tolerances. it would be a shame to buy it and it not work. i would get the right part. its always worth the extra money in the long run.

Euro, my current TB is good. The main reason that I don't want to invest a lot in the TB is that I want to try my hand at porting and polishing. I have wanted a ported and polished TB ever since you-know-who trashed mine.

Since you're into racing and mods, do you know anyone here in SoCal that ports and polishes TBs?

im going to do all my own engine work... my advice is go to a community college that teaches auto and they will have all the resources to do it yourself. including a flow bench further advice get a cheap set of heads from a chevy to learn on. much cheaper and you know the work was done right. if you want i could ask my teacher for a reference of a shop? he knows a lot of people and companies. however his focus is mainly chevy

I know for sure one big difference is the position of the inlet tube. Don't think it will work on a 119 motor.

i just remembered while getting ready this morning that my teacher said they do it by CNC now by the way and not by hand anymore...

but as he said when our "friend" was going to do the work... get a baseline a before and after on a flowbench.

Euro - I don't have access to the technologies that you described. However, I found these instructions on a Corvette website:

http://www.ls2.com/forums/showthread...h-Instructions

What do you think?

dont have access to attending a class? they have days and nights and a special projects course can be done on your own time... with all the tools provided for you...

i dont want to recommend anything because i only have book knowledge of tuning not practical hands on about port and polish. when i do get around to porting and polishing i can take pictures and do a write up but i have no plans to do that any time soon... (my goal is to do a one time build straight to 2500hp not several bits and pieces at at time so i need custom everything before i even think about engine mods) im still prepping the car....

many places will claim to know what they are doing but you can and might end up in the same situation you got already...

i did head work on chevy engines but not port and polish i dont think... and even if i tried to explain over messages it would be quite difficult.

i did not read the LS2 thread yet but i wouldnt trust some guys over the internet bantering...

as with anything reading and lots of it is key.

im willing to help where i can and with what i know. but like everyone i dont know everything and this isnt a subject im confident giving real concrete advice on yet. sorry.

but like i said let me know if i can be more help.

i can try messaging some mercedes contacts too to see about a shop in orange county area that does it though. unless you wanted to do it yourself? im not sure if you decided one way or another

EDIT: after looking at the site below i do know how to do that and have a machine at school... but i have never done a throttle body.

Actually, I don't have the time to take a junior college auto shop class just to be able to port a throttle body. I will try the procedure that I got from the Corvette site.
