P0101 CODE & Shifting into 5th Gear Trouble.

Check Engine

P0101 - Mass or Volume Air Flow A Circuit Range / Performance Confirmed.

Was recommended that I use a Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner which I did, disconnected the battery and all was fine for about 10 miles and it came back on. What I notice is after driving the car for a while and putting it into park, the rpms surge to about 1000 to 1500 rpms a few times and the calms down. The other issue and more concerning is when the car has been running for a while with this issue, the car sometimes does not want to shift into 5th gear. Is this a related issue???

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I like this car, had it since 1996 and it has 208,000 miles. Still solid.
