Colin,
the roof buzzer is located in the dome light assembly, which takes some effort to remove. It may be less work to find the cause of the problem than to temporarily silence the buzzer.
Where are you located, which model year is your SL, and what is the problem with your top?

Hi Klaus, I am in the UK!! Car is an '89 300 24valve.
Problem with the roof? Well, the hydraulics do not work! I just bought the car, had the hard top on, obviously latched but buzzer buzzing.
Took hardtop off, soft top does not raise. There is fluid in the pump. Roll over bar also does not work.
Plan over the winter is to strip it out and try and find the fault. You say the buzzer is in the dome light ? Mine seems to be under the dash, but I cannot see easily how to get under the dash. Maybe I can just pull a fuse?
Thanks
Colin

The roof chime is made hard to shut off, because it is intended to warn you of a safety issue. It is located in the dome light assembly, not in the dashboard. If you are hearing anything in the dashboard, then it must be a different warning yet.
The chime normally indicates that the front of the top is not secured. The reason is usually a false signal from one of the micro switches on the front latches A 129 800 07 74 and A 129 800 08 74. There are several ways to check whether this is the case. I would suggest that you take off the hard top, and tell us whether the roll bar (and possibly the soft top) works again at that point. If so, then this was as simple as the front latches not signalling that they were closed all the way with the top up, and you can use the adjustment procedure shown in the following thread: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r129...-switches.html.
Please let us know what you find, and we can advise of the next steps to take.

Did you ever resolve the low hydraulic fluid chime issue? I have the same problem, and the cylinders will be rebuilt in three weeks. I would like to discount the chime in the interim.

The roof control can not detect the level of hydraulic fluid in the system. The chime is a consequence of the controller not receiving confirmation via microswitch that all four corners of the roof are locked down.
