How to test cam adjuster 94 SL 320

I have a SL320 94 that seems to be lagging on acceleration is there a way to test the cam adjuster?

Thanks for this. I drove the car with the connector of and no change in performance and no engine light either, This looks like a complicated system to say the least:-)

I cannot see that it is a "monitored" system--I.e. there are no sensors checking that it is doing what it is supposed to. The ECU just expects it to work so there would be no DTCs thrown...

I did check voltage in the cable pins and it shows 13.49 volts at all times no matter the RPM.
