SL/R129: SRS Module not responding

SRS Module not responding
Hi All,
hopefully someone here can help, I've got an SRS warning light that appeared after i replaced the steering wheel.
stupidly i reconnected the battery when the airbag was not connected
i thought that all i need to do is just need to clear the codes on the SRS module.
my SL320 is 94 reg and has the 38 pin diagnostic port, ive got an LED blink code reader which i connected to pin 30. but i get no response... no blinks, no nothing :/
i then checked all my fuses and replaced them all for good measure but still no response from pin 30.
after some more reading on the forum it seems all was pointing at going to the dealer and get put on a star diagnostic system.
i did this today, but the dealer said that the module was not responding and they would need to book it in for a day to diagnose it further.
at £80 an hour im not thrilled with leaving it with them.
does anyone have anymore ideas...?
