Hydraulic leaks, A/C control panel started smoking so seller pulled it out, he also thinks somethings wrong with the fuel injection because he can't get it to run well, goes from to much fuel to not enough. Seats are tearing up. It does have nice rims, new brakes, taxes/tags current, only 84km, hard top included, and looks good!

If the current owner 'knows' Mercedes, then the price reflects a potential train wreck. If the owner doesn't know Mercedes, then why is the car being offered so low? Either way, you're going to be sinking money into it. So it becomes a matter of how much are you willing to sink into a car that sounds like it's on life support?
Cheers,
Jeff

Unless you enjoy and find joy in restoring (bringing her back to life), looks like waste of time and money.

After investing substantial amount for that, when time comes to sell, I think you would end up in deep red.

The other issue is that even if restored to excellent condition for it's age it would be just a hard to sell, maybe $6000, car...

Its suffering from the biodegradable engine harness issue, any SL pre 97 will have that issue, and will require a new engine harness.

It was primarily the '92 to '95 MY that had the "green" wiring insulation; there may (maybe) some "1996 " models produced in late MayJune of '95 also, however I have never been able to confirm that...

I looked at it, runs rough and smells like gasoline, the resonator rattles, paint on the hood is faded, headliner sagging, power steering leak, lower dash cover missing, yellowed soft window,it's a 20 footer.
But he has all the power locks working, he added new coils, plug wires, drilled rotors and new calipers/pads, soft tops no leaks, nice wheels, only $1,000. But I live in a high rise, no room to work on it.
Otherwise, I would gamble on it, and try rebuilding the harness. Anyone want to ship it from Oahu?

It sounds like a 35 or 40 footer to me. From what you describe one could easily spend $10k to $25k in parts and painting alone--to end up with a $3500 car. R129s are not exotic "classics" and will likely never be...

At this point it's more of a parts car, in fact he had the cylinder rebuild kit for the roof hydraulics in a box on the front seat, and he had done a lot of work to it. He also had an 89 vette, said parts were 1/3 the price for it and he could easily sit on the front tire and work on the motor, vs having to remove the headlight on the SL to replace the coils.

Also, hood insulation missing...
