Roll bar issue
First off - my wife and I went on a mini vacation up to the Lake Placid area about 2 hours north of home. We try to get up there once a year and this was a good time to go-mid week before the real summer season. We took lots of back roads and my SL500 showed me what it could really do. I'm impressed with the low rpm's it turns at highway speeds. On the back roads, it handles the twisty roads very nicely. Very connected to the road, steers with very little input. When needing to pass someone you just put your foot to the floor and the engine spools up very quickly and has a very nice, low engine grunt. 50-80 mph comes very quickly.
But, the latest issue is the infamous roll bar light. Flashing red lights on the center console, yellow light on the dash. Raised the bar like the manual said, red lights went out, yellow stayed on. From earlier posts, M-B dealers say that the remedy is a new roll bar controller at a cost of around $2000.
Over the course of the day today the problem has come and gone on various start ups.
If it is the controller, I would think about buying a used one and putting it in myself.
Any input would be appreciated.
Sorry for the long post!
