Change key fob IR to RF?
I just purchased a used '96 SL500. Among the many items I'm working on repairing (12 hydraulic cylinders, headlamp doors, seat covers....) I've discovered the only way to lock / unlock the doors or trunk is to use the trunk lock!
The IR remote (I only got 1) does not work. The light does NOT come on when I hold the button.
The driver door lock does nothing. There is not even the compressor noise you would expect when turning the key.
To top it all off, there are times when I can not unlock the doors with the trunk lock! It has gotten to the point where I will NOT lock the vehicle for fear it will not unlock and I will be stranded.
There are also times when I do unlock the vehicle but it won't start until I cycle the lock / unlock one or more times.
Advice?
I've heard there is a system that will REPLACE the IR system with RF. Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone know where to get one? Has anyone installed such a system?
