1999 Sl roll bar
Just purchased a 1999 SL500 and we took off the hard top to check the soft top.
Hydraulic leak from the left front actuator, so will be pulling both fronts and sending them in for a rebuild. The roll bar did not come up or move when we quickly put the top back down. The Sl did not come with an owners manual so I need to know if I have additional hydraulic issues.

The roll bar stays down during soft top operation, IF was was down to begin with. If it is up when you cycle open the top it will retract before the top opens.
When retracted the roll bar is held down by mechanical a solenoid operated mechanical lock.It is retracted by a single hydraulic cylinder pulling it down against the deployment spring. In a crash deployment the solenoid lock releases and the spring raises it. When manually raised the hydraulic cylinder dampens the upward motion via a flow restrictor; the hydraulic system does not actively raise the roll bar.
Here is more about how it works.
