Rear differential options/gear ratios
We are building a SL600 race car, we need a lower (higher numerically) gear ratio rear diff. Does anyone know if the SL320/500 diffs will swap into a 600? If they are the same size ring & pinion/same strength? Or do I need to get one out of another merc?

1998 SL500
The early 6-bangers (129.061, '90 to '93) had 3.46 and 3.69:1 final drives with the same 210 mm ring gear the later '500s as shown below:
The highlighted one supplied with the 5-speed might be the best choice as it also has the 32 mm axle shafts as used with the '93 and up '500s and '600s (129.067 and 129.076):
They must have thought the manual tranny needed the beefier axles. How much is involved in fitting one to a '500 is something you'll have to sort out...
