SL320 GAS SMELL

Been noticing lately that if I do not drive the car for a few days, that when I start it I get a gas smell. Have checked all lines, looked under it no leaks , it idles a little fast at first the settles down, it run s perfect smooth as silk up to 75 mph. Wondering where to start first, to see where the smell is coming from, no codes what so ever. showing. might start with gas cap, air filter, fuel filter,??????

I had a similar situation on my old '94 sl320 and found a slight rip in the fuelline area about at the middle of the car rear axle area it didn't show a leak or feel damp but once I got the car up and fooled around I found it. The line connects to the fuel filter if I remember correctly, gas cap is not a bad choice as the seal can fatigue especially after 21 years.
