1990 500SL fuel pump leaks

I was under my car today('90 500SL) replacing the fuel accumulator (hard to start). Before I began, I noticed that the bottom of the plastic pump cover was a little wet. After removing the cover, I noticed a little drip from the ends of the top and bottom pumps. Connections were tight, and the leak didn't seem to be from the fuel line connection area. I replaced the accumulator, and now the pump has a really fast drip. It seems to be coming from the pump between the inner portion and the outer pump body cover where it it crimped on at the end. Any suggestions, or should I just replace both pumps? Why do these cars have 2 fuel pumps?
