1990 Mercedes-Benz 500SL R129
Angry jas3293287

About a month ago I purchased a 1990 500SL R129. I have been trying to obtain as much information as possible on the (RST) system. Questions always come back to this site so I joined. I have a hardtop and a soft top.

I purchased an analyzer and have come up with codes that I have not been able to clear. Windows do not automatically go down. The window switches work. When I attempt to open the hardtop the right front lock will not open. When I manually open it then the back opens correctly. When I try to close the hardtop I have to manually close the front and manually close the back.

Welcome to the 129 forum.
Top Hydraulics is a forum sponsor and has rebuilt hydraulic cylinders at a good price with excellent service and background information.
First questions are fluid level and pump function ( located in trunk, under the spare tire ) You have checked? I have had two R129's and after reading the manual and getting all the proper steps completed I tried manually unlatching removing HT and bringing the canvass top into the locked position.
When I had a window movement issue I lowered the windows and roll bar and tried the red switch. After replacing a fuse in the back trunk area it worked, but I added extra pressure to latch down the front on the passenger side. One of the HT's also needed help!
Controllers, fluid pump and seals within the cylinders are all known ares of malfunction. Fluid, fuses and detailed directions are my starting place for the RST.
Since I am guessing at your skill set, and even your problem I will supply answers on request. Klaus of TopHydraulics is my go to guy and he always likes details!
