SL tire noise

I just drove a trip of 4000 km on European highways with my 2003 SL 500. Otherwise it was nice, but the unbelieavable tire noise is driving me nuts, specially on some rough concrete surface.

In driving Continental 255/45/17's now. It seems that some people favor Michelin Pilot Sports, would switching to them help anything in the noise department? Or would some other tire help better?

Thanks.

I've had the staggered Pilot Sports on mine from day one. I've been driving on many different road surfaces with very little if any tire noise.

From Giff Albright:I've had the Michelin Pilot Sports on miy Launch Edition SL 500 (Summer Tires) from day one.- (over three years).
I've been driving on many different road surfaces with very little if any tire noise. Their do wear (tread wear) quite quickly. In the Winter I use 4 Pirelli Winter Tires, and they are much noisier as would be expected.

I have Michelin Pilot Sports with over 17,000 miles on them. Looks like they can last over 30,000. Most of the time my tires are very quiet, except over rough grade of concrete.

All my friends hate Continental and two of them that owns e-classes took MBUSA to court to replace their tires and won. The Continental threads were separating inside of the tire.
