The shifter is rather ugly on my car, the top of it at least.. its plain silver. does this come off? Can it be replaced with a Mercedes symbol or something? Anyone ever seen a replacement for this.

My friend has a 2006 with out keyless and his shifter has a mercedes symbol on it and looks nicer. Hoping I can do something like this.

I was kinda hopeing to replace just the top circle of the shifter, it looks like it would pop off if pried at it. I dont want to tug at it for fear of breaking it, was hopeing for some conformation it comes off first.

I like the look of the shifter, just not the top of it.

I don't know about the top circle but it (the entire knob)comes off but not by force. You must remove the shiftboot from the console just push the bottom of the boot where it is attached to the console toward the shift lever. Once it is unattached pull it up and over the knob. There is a plastic ring that holds the knob in place. Turn it clockwise and it will unlock the knob. All that you then need to do is pull it straight off of the shaft.

I had the same idea...I like the shifter, but the silver top gets very hot in the summer with the top down. Let me know if you come up with something.

Here is a Visual of what Im talking about.. do you guys think you can use a 2005 shifter on a 2003? I actually like my shifter better than the 2005.. its shorter, just wish I could pry the top off the 2005 shifter and snap it on mine...
