SL/R230: transmission problem

transmission problem
I have an SL500 , 2004. One day it just went into first gear and reverse only and the engine light is on. It does not shift into second third etc. No warning. I was told the trans goes into limp mode. Has anyone had this problem, and what do I do/ or ask the mechanic to do, and how expensive.

04 MBZ SL500
turbine speed sensor
my 04SL failied like that(limp). Was fixed under warranty sop don't know the cost. I don't think it required extraction of tranny. probably serviced via port.

Try a ECU Trans reset?
I don't have any idea if this would help, but have you tried a ecu-trans reset?
Won't hurt - but maybe give it a shot...
Here is the ECU reset sequence
1 Get in car close door - ensure all accessories are off, Radio, etc...
2. Place MB Key in ignition and turn key to ON Position - that's position just before you start the car.
3. Press gas pedal all the way to the floor, hold it there and count to 10
4. Release pedal from floor
5. Turn key to off position but don't remove if from the key slot
6. Sit and wait for about 2-3 minutes, you should hear a little whine noise behind the steering column when the ECU has reset it's self.
7. Start her up, find a clear road, and enjoy as you have just released the beast.
Hope it works!!

Hi Marco
See my thread on third page and you will see that I had the same kind of problems
My heading is '. Transmission Problems'. See also my thread where one of my witnesses was interfered with by MB
MB have been aware they have had this problem since 1996
Hope you either got rid of the car or else sued them. I know it is a long while since you first wrote your thread but if you need any help contact me
Best wishes
Philip
