Pre set radio stations with steering wheel?

I just purchased a 2008 SL550 and just set all of my preset radio stations. The steering wheel controls will not pick up the presets. It goes to the next station unstead of the next preset. In my wifes ML you can choose in the menu to seach by frequency or by preset. I cannot seem to find this menu in my SL. It does not make sense to have to reach over and press the preset number on the number pad instead of pressing the next station on the streering wheel and having it go to your next preset station. Please help

There is a series of various settings that the steering wheel controls can control.

I believe you may be in the radio tune mode of the steering wheel controls, vs the mode where the next preset station comes up.

Keep trying the buttons to find the correct mode ... or ... just read the manual.

Nope. I agree with you but there is no method to do this.

Can't speak to the 2008's, but on my 2003 there is definitely an option to have the steering wheel buttons do next station or next preset, as ChuckT says. The manual should cover it, or you can play around with the menus.

There is no way to do it. Playing with the menus won't help. It's not in the manual. It can't be done. Extend your right arm and press the dang button on the dash. Sheesh.

Your radio stations have to be set correctly in the Comand and stored, with the radio highlighted in the cluster then you can change stations to those stored into the Comand

I have an '03 as well...I don't know how to do this but would like to be able to control my stations using the +/- steering wheel button on the upper right corner of the wheel...

how do I do this? I too am manually pressing the buttons for each pre-set on the number pad any time I want to switch stations as mentioned above.

The tick boxes in the menu must be ticked for the wheel buttons to work

I contacted MB customer service and the 2008 model will not automatically go to the next pre set station when using the steering wheel controls. It will only go to the next clear station. The older models did but they have no idea why the 08 model is different. No big deal but does not make sense.

There is not a way to do it on the 09' SL either. It's trivial but shocking. It seems like a no brainer.

Presets

My 2009 SL550 allows me to move up and down on the steering wheel between presets on AM, FM and Sirius stations/channels. The stations are in the sequence I programmed on the radio. I can't speak to the situation with earlier models, but the 2009 seems fine. Maybe because it has the new version of the Comand system.

Radio Presets

On my 09 SL550 the steering wheel up and down arrows control both functions. A momentary push on either changes to the next preset. A push and hold for a second or two will engage the seek mode and the next strong station will be found. I would expect that all 08 and 09 models work the same way.

I have an 05 SL55 that I can't scan through the presets as well. I did a search a while back and found that the E-Class of the same year had a Comand upgrad to fix that and the ETA info on the Nav. I went to the dealer he said they wouldn't upgrad the SL with the E-Class update due to policy.
