Exclamation anyone know how to reset our ecu or adaptive transmission

i noticed that my 2009 sl550 was faster when it was new, i feel like the transmission adapted to my comfort driving.

I want to have a fresh start and make it more aggressive is there a way to reset the ec or adaptive transmission on this car?

Here you go
1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.

2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.

3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.

You will be amazed at how much stronger your car feels. Even though my SL55 has RennTech mods the first time I did this I thought that I broke something because the rear end was churning back and forth. Nothing broke it was the ESP trying to hook up the car. With this set the car even chirps the rear tires going into second and keep in mind that the rear tires on mine are 295x30x19s.

Hi

Just to double check, whilst waiting the 2 mins for the ECU to reset to i still leave the keys in but turned to off ?. I know they are meant to be left in whilst the gas pedal is released but do i leave it in for the 2 mins or take it out ?.

Thanks

Carl

Take the keys out. You can do this when you pull into work or your garage turn the key on press the gas pedal remove the key. Then when you leave work or wait a minimum of 2 minutes the ECU is reset.

I followed the procedure. My indie showed me what I was doing wrong.
The ECU won't reset if you take your foot off the gas pedal before you remove the key.

RE: ECU Reset

I have found this to work perfectly on my E63 and prior W211, but not for the SL600. As the 600 uses the older 2.7 ECU, is anyone aware of a comparible reset procedure we can do at home?

ECU Reset

Retried the reset on my SL600 yesterday and it worked perfectly, really woke things back up. I stand corrected.

Hi NCE500

Did you do the reset by removing the key before taking your foot off the pedal or foot off then key out ?.

RE: ECU Reset

I have always followed the steps exactly as detailed above by lkirchner.

To specifically answer the question, key stays in ignition switch until ECU has completed it's reset.

Still pleasantly surprized at how much it woke up my 600.....getting wheel chirps at part throttle all the time again.

I *think* that if you see the outside temperature display +185 for a few seconds when you start the car for the first time after doing the reset - that means you did it correctly. At least that is what happens on my 2004 SL600.

i think the forum admins should sticky a complete version of this process somewhere on the forum, just so people won't always ask

lol, i've made a memo pad of it in my blackberry. lol i've even texted it to friends at times.

By the on position, do you mean the first click, or second click?

(it goes First, second, engine start)

2nd click. 1st click is only accessory, 2nd is ignition.

will the ECU reset wipe out Renntech upgrades

I'm about to have the Renntech ECU and TCU upgrades on my SL600.
Will this procedure "wipe out" the new Renntech modifications back to stock, or just improve performance without modifying the Renntech settings?

Works perfectly , can it be set as the permanent default ?
