best $80 into my car yet
called up my favorite exhaust guy here in lincoln, after I convinced him that I'm not "out of my f***ing mind" he took out the mufflers on my sl600, and it should have sounded like that from the factory, best $80 I think I have spent in my life thus far.

after getting it back and running it a bit, it sounds like my a/c compressor is ticking though, anyone else have this issue? I am guessing she will need a new compressor....warranty to the rescue!!!

no sound clip yet, and I'm in the middle of moving, so it might be a day or two until I dig out my home laptop and camera. I will probably through it on youtube though because a bunch of my local friends wanna hear what a turbo v12 is supposed to sound like

His wifes head hard into the headboard nightly!!
I went to a shop yesterday to have my rear mufflers removed after hearing a fellow members car. But shop took off my resonators instead. Sounds better, no not much of a differnce in sound unless you totall pin it. It feels like more instant response though. I def. Like the sound of no mufflers, but at same time it is loud, and I might change my mind after awhile. Plus why spend $ on my stereo just to make the exhaust louder so I can't hear it.
Shop charged me $150 cdn to take out the 2 resonators. Took them about 1.2 hours. I'm happy more for the cars response more than the minimal sound differenece. When i need new air filters I will drop k&n's in.

I had resonators removed. There are up on the middle area of the car. Will post pics, but on iPhone right now.

You don't want to remove the mufflers on the V8 cars. It'll sound horrible. The V12TTs have the advantage of the turbos being part of the exhaust manifolds and act as psuedo mufflers. These cars sound glorious without the mufflers.

second pic is of the resonators closer to engine. there are 2 and they are smaller and very close together.
regardless of whats removed people just get pipe put in.
from what i have heard in person w/o muflers on the sl500 V8 its loud and sounds mean..maybe a bit much for some people.
the resonators give it a little deeper, raspy, spund and I have fely an ectra kick when taking off in my sl500 V8
i cant say how it sounds for V12's or if the taking out BACK mufflers gives any gains.

Maybe someone else can confirm, but idk if the v12s have resonators, I'm yet to get my car on a lift. I took out the square mufflers just before the exhaust tips, and yes it sounds incredible. Everyone that has heard the new exhaust over the stock think it is just right. I wish it was just a touch louder at wot, but its great overall

Is the SL55 AMG exhaust similar in design to the SL500 exhaust? I think i would like to hear the sound of the exhaust without the resonators, but i will most definately leave the mufflers at the back. Anyone know what diameter piping it is before and after the resonators? I am asking becuase i will have my shop make V-Band straight pipes for me and then weld V-Band flanges onto my resonators so i can take them off and put them back on when i want to....

V12-Biturbo
Competent muffler shop shouldn't charge more than $500-$600 out the door (for Down pipes & oem cat removal, buy your own 300 cell cats off Ebay around $150 delivered, they weigh about 2 lbs ea vs 15-20 lbs ea stockers, great weight savings, considering mufflers weighed 20+ lbs ea your knocking 80+ lbs static weight off car, ea 100 lbs = 10 HP not to mention multi-other weight savings benefits)
This mod & oem cat sizing placement is innate to the SL/CL600 platform the 55k guys have smaller primary/2ndry cats & resonators. The SL600 does NOT have 4 seperate cats nor resonators in oem form, the Primary cats on 600 are huge because they are actually 2 cats welded together w/small space between ea cat, so replacing w/single 300 cell cat per side is huge performance & sound increase.

it is possible to put them on, just make sure that whoever removes them knows that you may put them back on at some point
