2003 R230 Exhaust/ Muffler Modification
Hello members,
I'm new to this forum and I was wondering if anyone did any modifications to their mufflers/ exhaust system to bring out the v8 engine note I want a deeper growl however I want the cabin noise to be minimal under 2000-2500 rpm. Any suggestions? I am willing to go with the cheaper route (going straight pipes for example)
If there is another thread on this, please direct me to there. Thanks.

I am also brandnewbie first ever MB 2003 SL 500 64k miles; sounded a little loud, mechanic looked underneath said strait pipes no muffler; now I like the sound of roar when I push button start; only slightly loud when cruising don't really notice it. I haven't checked inside decibels, how do you check it?

In your opinion, how comfortable is the cabin noise with the straight pipes (windows and roof up, no music) from 1 (not comfortable) - 10 ?
I think you need the equipment with a microphone and a calculator attached to it to calculate the decibels. I forgot what it's called.
Thanks!

I cut my mufflers out. I'm currently working on deciding whether I want to replace it with straight pipe and new exhaust tips, or possibly glass packs and new tips, or an aftermarket performance muffler.

Hope everything goes well. Let us know which one sounds the best! I'm deciding on straight pipes (with oem exhaust tips) but I'm just worried it will affect cabin noise while cruising below 2000-3000rpm
