Steaming music from phone
Hey all
So I picked up this new to me 2005 SL65. I have searched but the more I read the more confusing it gets.
What I would like ,,, no what I need to do is stream music from my android phone to the stock system. It does have the connector in the center consul.
Any good solutions out there?

Streaming Music
Connector is made for older I-Phone (I think I-4) New i phones need what they call a "lightning" connector to convert old connector to new I-Phone connector. Then you will be able to charge phone, phone calls caller ID on screen, and listen to your music. Frank

On my '03 I plug an audio mini cable from my Android earphone output jack into the female plug in the glovebox the use the AUX function on the radio to listen to music or radio (Tunein Radio app) streaming from my phone. Check the left side of your glovebox for the plug. You could also get an FM transmitter device that plugs into you phone and then tune your car radio to the FM frequency that you have set for the device. With the 1st method, the direct cable, I get some whine that can be annoying.

I wish it were that easy. MB at some point decided that glove compartment plug was no longer needed. My car does not have one.
I ordered a Grom interface today. We will see how that goes.

I have an '09 SL that has bluetooth but not for streaming music. From the advice of another forum user, I purchased 'tune2air' from Amazon for $79. It is a small bluetooth device that attaches to the adapter in the console and allows you to stream music via bluetooth and not by having your phone concocted to that adapter. It works perfectly as if it were built into the car, all music displays on the screen and you can scroll between songs on the steering wheel or radio. Might want to give it a try

Yes I too thought the tune2air would be a slick way of streaming. I also could never figure out if it would work with my 2005 car. I think, but not sure you need a 30 pin iPhone connector to start with. I looked at the puck connector and it is not 30 pin. It does not look like the iphone connector.
The web site kind of sucks. It does not list make and models of cars that are compatible. Only that if you can plug an iphone into your car the tune2air will work.

Thats what I was thinking, thank you for confirming.
I ended up installing a Grom interface and am very happy with the results.
I think it is the only solution for the Android user that wants bluetooth streaming and hands free phone though the stock system.

so are there any benefits of that bulky mb branded box? I think 79 bucks sounds like a deal. I have the bluetooth dongle now, it just connects to that?

the BM Bluetooth box only plugs into the media port, not the bluetooth port where your dongle plugs in. There is a difference. The port in the center is only for phone docks or the bluetooth dongle for phone use only. Your vehicle would need to be equipped with an iPod integration/media kit to have the port for the MB bluetooth adapter.

so is there any way to add the factory media kit to a 2005? or is it going to have to be the mobridge, dension, or grom?
