2007 SL550 Battery Suggestions
Had my "consumer"/trunk battery replaced. A mechanic looked at it and said it was substandard replacement. (CCA 680; CA 850; not AGM.) I am learning about this now. Is this a concern (the mechanic said it my or may not cause issues). Any suggestions about the best battery to use?

Just had mine replaced front and back with MB OEM, $600, from what I was told by the service folks (which I trust) problems can occur, resulting in electrical problems. Car also needs to be re flashed.

The rear battery is AGM. Commonly referred to as "Gel Cell". And it is a maintenance free deep cycle battery. These batteries can be run down to about 50%, and recharged many times without harm. In this application, the battery does not need a high rating for cold crank amps...because it does not start the engine except for emergency back up to the engine battery. And instead these batteries typically have a higher Amp Hour Rating. This is so it can hold a charge much longer in use. And have longer sustainable usage cycle.
Without a doubt, the AGM deep cycle battery is best for that application. And as far as I know, there is no after market replacement available. Only Mercedes OEM battery.

I just purchased Consumer Battery for my 07 SL 550. Advance Auto Parts has
the H6 AGM for 171. There is a 20 percent online discount and a 25 dollar rebate going on now. Great deal. Dealer said just take the old one out and replace. No reset req'd.
