BRAKE : VISIT WORKSHOP !
well, as the title says, this came up on the dash board. i went ahead and purchase all the brakes and sensors and changed them. Realized that the pads were still almost 80% and the sensors werent even damage, i still changed it and hope it get rid of the error..... Alas, the light doesnt go away. For my other mercedes C 32 amg and C240, they go away immediately.
Does anyone ever encounter this error even with good brakes and sensors? what could had been the problem? im trying to figure out before i waste 200bucks for diagnostic at the dealer to find it was a simple problem
please help . THx

Usually it's the SBC pressure reservoir. Hope it's not.
Over $1000 replacing cost: parts, fluid and labor if it is.
Like what NEXT2POOL said the error code needs scanning.
Cheers.

Be careful
This exact thing just happened to me. If your car is a 2005 then the dealer will cover this repair. There is a ten year unlimited mileage warranty on the SBC control unit. However. If your car is a 2004 like mine. Then your screwed. The part is around $1100 plus the install. You see this part was built with an end time. Which is preposterous. Because. This is your brakes!!! It is built for only 300,000 brake accuations and then it stops. When it stops you will get complete brake failure! This is very dangerous and usually happens between 100k-120k miles. That's why most people sell at this mileage. I have also found out that there is a way that you can reset the counter. But still not found out exactly how they do it.
I am still driving mine trying to figure out what to do.

Are you certain? My brake pedal is pulsing and the SBC unit groans constantly.
I looked at the unit, it's manufactured by Bosch. Are you talking about that black barrel shaped piece??

MBWorld Fanatic!
dealing with the same issue myself I suspect my SBC unit simply counted out to that 300,000 pedal actuations that I keep reading about.
Below is more discussion, but be careful, they are clearly discussing a number of brake related issues in this thread.

I am thinking it is worth a diagnostics charge at an MB dealer just to find out what the real issue is.
I think the SBC counter can be reset in Star Das developer. I am not certain that would be a good idea. By the way, please don't take any of my comments as absolute. I am just sharing what I have gleaned thus far.
I have read about the 10 year warranty often. What sucks for most of us with SLs is the problem seems to occur somewhere around 100,000 miles and most of us will not put 100k on our cars in the 10 year period. My SL is an 03 and I am around 98,000.

In my case it was the black "grenade" shaped accumulator that unscrews from the ABC unit. However, that doesn't mean it is your problem. I scanned mine with the Star Computer and that is what came up. You have to disable the SBC unit before unscrewing it since it is under high pressure. It is also called the reservoir depending on where you read about it.
