SL/R230: Moved up

Moved up
So after a '72 Triumph Tr6 (if it's not leaking oil you better put some in) that was a childhood dream it was a lot of fun and never stranded me. I traded up to a '94 sl320, didn't leak anything ran like a freight train frustrated the beejeezuz out of me mechanically at times and stranded me once transmission implosion. It was and is a great long distance cruiser calm, secure and spacious along with sporty in a sense and surprisingly economical 23mpg at 80mph. Reached a point where my bride thought we should trade up, so I searched for and found a low mile '08 sl550 dealer maintained and supported. I've had it for a week and so far I am very impressed bags of power very quiet with top up, very enjoyable when down. 20+mpg at 80mph.

Spent yesterday doing about 250miles thru the mid coast of Maine, a mix of spirited highway, backroad and in village putting. First we got 22mpg avg, second in most instances the car feels much lighter than it is and pulls very well in any gear. The behind the seats bag works great to stash stuff for a cruise of that type. Caught in a mild rain the car has a very different personality with the top up, quiet and composed but always ready to go. The only complaints, I don't have my owners manual yet so the wipers were a mystery till I got back to my iPad and figured out there operation. (I needed them for all of 3-minutes) and likewise the nav system I just haven't taken the time to read the command manual. But I was pleased to see that the map function knew exactly where I was at all times. My wife picked out our next car on a side street in Camden, a Jaguar F-Type R series as it blasted away from us with with its high pitched snarl. Give me 7-years I'll try to find a nice 2nd generation F or maybe an AMG gt.
