SL550 Seat Recline Problem And Restriction
I just purchased a 2008 SL 550 Sport with 30 K miles. I have had multiple of this generation, and notice an unusual problem with this one. I am 6'3 tall and require the seat to go back about as far as possible with also the most backward recline as possible too. I know it automatically limits the amount of recline to avoid interference with the rear compartment --- but the limits on this car are too extreme. I am assuming there is a calibration for the seat limits that need to be reset?? The passenger seat functions correct/adequate. Motors for the seat are all working properly --- it is just limiting me from reclining enough. ANY feedback is appreciated!

Out Of Control!!
Absolutely amazing---you, you personally, did do a test drive and obviously did not notice any issues and bought the car---why are you whining now!!
In any event if all the adjusting motors work and have reached their programmed limits--this leaves you with relocating the seats towards the rear or visiting a dealer and ask if there is any "Big Boy" seat software updates!!

I Don't think I was "whining"..? This is Not something that would prevent me from buying the car. Simply looking to get the seat to function as my 230 chassis vehicles in the past have. If anyone has incite it is greatly appreciated! Thanks

I can tell you that the SDS has the ability to set some seat functions, like how far the seat moves back when you shut off the car. I did adjust this limit on my car to get the slide back convenience functions to work correctly.
I'm 5'-8", so I didn't test the tilt and move back to the max functions, but you might be able to program these limits in the SDS. You may want to get inside the SDS and push a few buttons to see if you can 'fix' this too.

Steve: I'm the same height as you, and I find it a bit "cozy" in my '07 R230. The only sports car seating adjustments I have found to be adequate were in Porsche 911s and newer Corvettes. My brother recently bought a Boxster S Spyder ... I simply cannot fit in that car.
But back to our R230s: After trying a variety of seat adjustments, I think ... it's still just a theory ... that I'm most comfortable with the seat height raised as far as I can stand it, just before my head starts to brush the roof, the bottom seat leading edge raised to a comfortable level and the trailing edge lowered as far as it will go, the seatback tilted back, and the whole seat pushed back to the stops. That's the best I've found. My main dissatisfaction with this setup: the raised seat places the mirror directly in my line of sight and occludes my view to the right of the windshield ... I have to tip my head to see past the mirror. May all of Life's problems be so benign. Good luck, Mate.
