Headlight aim 2003 sl500
I would like to raise the beam a little. Someone told me it had to be programed. Is that true? Or is there a manuel adjustment I can do myself. Any advise is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Are you talking about the height of the beam? Or the power?
Because idk if you're allowed by law to make it higher than a certain level.
If you do it might blind the incoming drivers. That's why it might be prohibited.
I deal with salvaged cars and when registering any of them the DMV requires a smog check and a Brake and light inspection ($75 charge total). Every time i pass the inspection they have a level for each car that they adjust to, so that way it doesn't affect the incoming traffic. So you can ask any shop that deals with Brake and Light inspections if they can do that.
That's assuming you're talking about the height of the beam you're looking at about a $30-40 charge
I don't think it's done by programming. All the cars i dealt with have a manual adjustment knob on the headlight itself. You need to use a screw driver for that, sometimes a really long one, to access the place. if you have time take a flashlight and look at your headlight, most of the times it has marks or writings that directs you to adjusting. Can't tell you exactly where is located as each brand does it differently

You can raise or lower the headlights without programming. On the top of the headlight assembly, there is a splash guard / finisher with a hole in it. If you look in there, you'll find the adjustment screw. You'll need a large Torx or Hex wrench, or a very large, wide flat head screwdriver to make the adjustment. Turn one way to raise, the opposite to lower.
When I adjusted mine, I used a medium sized wood chisel to turn the screw since I didn't own the proper size Torx wrench.

thank you very much, Haleyimages) I will try it this weekend. and for the other posters, I am not changing the lumens. just need to adjust it up. the beam simply is pointed to low at this time.
