tires for 2007 SL550

Hi all,

I just got the front passenger tire replaced with the spare, currently I use ContiSportContact 3 255/40ZR18 front and 285/35/ZR18 rear. My question is if I should stick to the same brand or it's worth considering other options.
The rear ones have another 10k-15k (based on how much I drive it, less than a year away) so only need to replace the front ones right now.

Thanks in advance,
Leo

Depends on you. I replaced mines with Hankook Ventus V12. There's a comparision test on tires. First place was Michelin Sport (don't remember the exact model). Second was hankook. When i replaced mines Michelin was $400 a tire, Hankook - $200. So it's up to you. Best it's always more expensive. Do you really need top quality? Go for it.

P.S. - don't forget to check the load index, as our cars are pretty heavy and you need to make sure the tires fit

Regards

Before the SL I owned an Audi S8 and had those tires, really bad experience. So is not that I need top quality for the sake of it, just want to make sure I don't end up buying something not supported by the car.
I found out that ContiSportContact3 is discountinued and it seems the current model is ExtremeContact DW, any references?

Thanks

Your question: "... if I should stick to the same brand or it's worth considering other options."

My response: Michelin Pilot Sport 3 ... about $245 at Tire Rack.

I've bought nothing but Michelin tires since 1972, when I put I set on my '68 Buick Skylark. I became an immediate and rest-of-my-life believer in Michelin tires, and have bought no other brand for my cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Some (most) of the vehicles I bought over the past 55+ years had other brand OEM tires, some of which were better and some of which were worse than others, but none ever compared favorably with Michelin products. When the time came to replace OEM tires, I always chose Michelin.

So ... just one man's response.

Follow your bliss.

Depends how often you drive and the weather conditions. I will go for Michelin but if it is moderately driven in dry or damp conditions, you can consider Continental and Pirelli. Do your reviews and avoid used tires. If you consider replacing, it is best to replace all four.

thanks everybody for their input. Based on price, reviews and immediate availability I went with Continental ExtremeContact DWS, $220 each with labor included.
In less than 10k miles (probably very early next year based on how much I drive it) I'll replace the rear ones for the same model.

Thanks!
Leo
