Driver's side door arm rest. Creaks and Groans..
On my 2007 SL, My arm rest groans and I can see that it is not as tight as it was new. Is this an easy fix or do I have to live with it? Looks like the lid and case are attached by a mechanism that has grooves to open and close together. Can this be repaired? The sound is just annoying..
Thank you
Shaun

I have the same problem, I got the dealer to replace the lock mechanism, but it didn't help at all.
Seems that it will not close completely, but there is a small gap, (like 5mm),along the armrest on the drivers side, so i guess i have to live with the noise.
Maybe it got a cola bottle or something that has pushed the armrest a little bit apart?
Anyway, I hope that somebody else may have found a solution.

That is exactly what mine is like. I was thinking that mine was pushed on a lot and just began to wear. Wonder if I should try to replace the lock mechanism? How much was it?

Here in Norway the cost was around 120 dollars.
But you can keep your money, because it doesn't help at all, the gap is exactly the same after installation.
I changed the top chrome lock mechanism only, maybe something further down can be replaced?
So the only reason that I can think of is replacing the hole thing, but that is too expensive, so I guess i have to live with it.
Hope somebody on this forum have an solution for this.

The cracking and groaning will go away if you lubricate everything that moves with silicone lubricant. - at least that worked for me.

Mine works ok but the gap is large. I'm usually pretty good on fixing a "smaller" headache like this but after messing with it I gave it up. I think the design is just not real good for this part.
