2003 R230 SL 600
Serious boot lid trouble!

Hi all,
I have a SL 600 model from 2003. I have the "well known problem " with the boot lid; the soft close does not work anymore.

The thing is that I have replaced the whole lock with a new original one. Reset the vacuum pump and it worked three times then the same failure again.

After that I mounted a new air hose; I connected it directly to the locks' airconnector. I cut the old air hose about 10 cm from the pump (didn't want to "mess around" with the hoses on the pump) and used a connector to connect the new hose. So only 10 cm of old hose and the connection plug to the pump (is old).

IT IS STILL NOT WORKING!

When I disconnect the black battery connector to reset the vacuum pump it is working, three times. But I can hear the pump running -after- the boot lid is successfully closed. I think it is running for about 5 sec after the lid is closed.

Does anyone have any idea of what is wrong? My Mercedes brand workshop have (as always no clue)...

This may be an electrical problem in either the wiring harness or the PSE pump itself. When my system activates and closes the lid I hear my pump run for a very short time after closing but I do not have to reset the system. I did the epoxy job on the truck control box which fixed my headache perfectly.

These older model years are prone to such issues. For example, the Nav system and TPMS system are useless and are nothing but trouble.
Does the boot lid close and lock in place when doing it manually? If so, forget the soft close and enjoy your ride.
