Top will not close

2004 SL 500 and the top goes up fine and the trunk lid closes properly. When closing the top, the roof sets in place but the trunk lid stays up. There is a motor making a sound but nothing happens. Please help.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Here's a copy of the diagnostic steps that might help:

See if the flaps fold in. If not, then that's the culprit.

Those flaps have a limit switch to make sure they are closed. I've heard (not had this issue) that you can get the switch to read closed by applying a piece of tape and a shim. This is a temporary fix to close the lid.

You may also have a broken flap cable plastic, which has been replaced with an upgraded part. Search for issues like this on the forums. Not hard to replace, and more robust once repaired. I believe there is an adjustment on this cable to get the limit switch to read "flap in place".

Let us know what fixes the issue.

What is the switch before "flap closed"? While closing it works dine till the flaps are supposed to fold in then gets stuck.
Motor whirrs but flaps won't begin travel to their stowed position.

Or, where else shall I look?
