Horn honking problem

A strange scenario I am facing with my 2004 SL500. It started with the horn honking unintentionally when I would use the steering wheel controls, then it would honk every time I turned the wheel to go around a corner, and then at the end, it would honk for no reason at all. I had no choice but to drop the car off at the dealer two days ago and was told it will take a week to get the parts. So I'll be without my car for another 5 days or so Such a pain in the ****. And yes, it was very embarrassing for the horn to be blowing for no reason at all!

That's an interesting problem... never heard of it. Did the dealer say what the problem was? What part is being replaced? I feel your pain bro... drove my SL today and it's still the damn best car to drive (for me anyway! )

too slow.........unless you are really stuck in the middle of the arctic ice cap, 5 days to get parts is unacceptable. MB prides itself in stocking inventory which can be delivered within 24 hours. 5 days...they are not really interested !!
press them again, if not possible disconnect the horn (is it legal ?)

This happened to my 2004 CLK as well. It just took 2 days in the shop to fix.

Turns out to be somthing to do with a faulty airbag connection. They had to order a new bag via overnight shipping.....

Still waiting

It has now been 8 days since I dropped the car off, and it is still not fully repaired.

They claim to have replaced the faulty parts that orignally caused the problem, but as a result of the constant horn honking, the horn itself has now gone bad. They assured me that a new horn has been ordered and should be installed no later than tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath anymore.

Fixed!

Today I was able to FINALLY pick up my car from the service department. The horn and all the steering wheel control buttons seem to be operating correctly again.

Hope none of you have a similar expericence.

Just started having this problem this week...

I just started having this problem this week. What was the cost of the fix? This will be the 4th problem that I have had with this car since I bought it less than a year ago with 36,000 miles on it. At $600, $4000, $3000, and $300 for repairs within on year, I am I am thinking about painting it Lemon Yellow. It is, so far, the worst vehicle purchase I have ever made. And probably the last Mercedes that I will ever own. MB should be ashamed of themselves.....a 100k vehicle, no matter how pretty it is, shouldn't have all these problems that I have read about on the various threads. I thought, mistakenly so, that I was buying a quality used vehicle because it had the Mercedes star on it.....how woefully wrong I was!!
