You are correct. My question is WHY make it so aggressive looking? Every automaker out there is looking to make their vehicle look like something Darth Vader might drive. At some point, you would think that a luxury automaker would reserve one or two of their "halo" models to be beautiful, exquisite, utterly refined, luxurious and elegant, without playing to the video game/monster truck/tractor pull/fast & furious crowd. I think the SL should be designed with graciousness and understated elegance. Something that might conjur up visions of Cary Grant & Grace Kelly, off for a drive along the Pacific Coast. Oh well, one can only dream.......
I find it to be a very sporty yet elegant coupe which will be available as a roadster for MY18.
Btw, looking at Grace Kelly reminded me of cruising down the corniche to Monaco in an SL a couple of months ago. I thought it was a perfect fit

2020 S560 Sedan, 2019 SL450, 2019 E450 Luxury Trim Wagon, '24 BMW I7 on order...
I like the AMG GT and think the design is aggressive and very attractive. I don't want one, but I appreciate what it is.
After looking at the new SL photos more, I must admit that it is an improvement over the previous version. As for the interior, I find it to be quite nice and luxurious, I just wish there were more "full color" interior choices, such as all red or all Palomino, etc.
I imagine that for the German market, they will still be offering a "standard" or "non-Sport" model, which I will probably find very appealing and something I would like to have, but it probably won't make it to this side of the pond, which is too bad. Oh well.

Very disappointed? I guess you don't understand what a midcycle facelift is.
Just look at a 2011 SL550 and compare it to your 2005. Same thing...
This facelift is not really mid-cycle either as it was pulled up in time due to the controversial front end.
The new SL will be the R232 for MY2021, so you may have to wait a bit longer

I love the look of the facelift! I saw one in person in Stuttgart a few weeks back and it looks way sharper in person, much sexier than the pre-facelift.
And to the person who said the designer should be shot, Gordon has - in many peoples opinion - been the driving force behind MB's record sales growth over the past few years. Must mean he has a good sense for what most people like to (or would like to) drive, and find attractive. I know I do.
And to all of those complaining about not having new tech included - It's a facelift, and the progression of a model year is mostly a marketing decision unfortunately. Due to the next generation being well underway, not wanting to steal too much of it's thunder when released.

Which makes sense since the E-Class intros these of the next gen. features but launches after the SL facelift.
