Why Do My Rotors Have Surface Rust?
Went for a 90 mile spirited drive yesterday, arrived home and immediately washed the car. When doing the wheels last saw that the rotors all have a surface rust. Looked at our 4 other autos including Ford, Cadillac and VW and all had shiny rotors, even one that had not been driven for over a month. What is the difference in the Mercedes set up?

Rotor Rust
I agree with parsfdon, the rust is created by residual moisture from your wash job, interacting with the composition of the rotors as the moisture dissipates. Upon your first application of the brakes, the rust will be gone. Some Euro vehicles have associated rust of the disc hub, and that can be cleaned and painted, rarely occurring on a vehicle that is driven regularly. Love the fact that the SL has stainless steel calipers, so you will never see any rust in that area.
