Edit, it looks like the grille star on both amg and standard models are flat... does anyone know if there's a mercedes emblem/grill setup that isn't a painted disc?

Hi guys,

I'm not in love with the flat mercedes grille emblem, and it looks like the sl63 has extra dimension -- or I'm imagining it. Seems like it isn't flat, appears like a 3D cut out... has anyone tried to swap the Mercedes star/associated components out in their SL550 to the SL63/SL65? Am I imagining this? Anyone seen a front grill emblem that has depth?

Mercedes only really has two types of stars (not discussing the lighted version here) and the are different based on wether the car has Distronic or not.

With distronic, the star is on printed on a curved cover that's in front of the radar. Without it, the star has some depth as an actual chrome star is sitting on a frame that has the same star outline about 2" deep (like a cookie cutter).

I makes no difference if it's a 550 or 63. Distronic defines the star.

The SL63 grill is much smaller of course and a has a completely different design, along with the bumper.
