84 380SL value

I wanted to get some input on the value of this car. It is a friend's who is currently in a nursing home, but the kids want to sell the car. With one MB in the family and two other 'toy' cars it can't call my place home.

Details:
  • 162K odo not working
  • California car - no rust visible anywhere
  • Red paint is good to poor with some respray
  • Black interior - good condition
  • Chrome - all shiny
  • Hardtop
  • New soft top
  • Dent in left rear quarter ( medium size - doubt paintless removal would work )
  • Runs good but has surging idle

There isn't any history with the car but the car drives well.

What do you think is a fair price?

Thanks
Alan

With the current market and in the condition described, IMO an honest answer would be around $2500.

With no history I would have to agree Although I hate to agree with anything says.
You don't know if the subframe was ever addressed. Odometer is a simple repair if done DIY. About $70.00 in parts

You are more realistic than some of the owners on the MBCA site.

I probably should not have provided that link. People that advertise in the MBCA classifieds tend to take a lot better care of their vehicles than the Craigslist crowd. I'm sure all of the one's on MBCA are the pick of the litter, whereas the one qdessa is looking at probably should be at a bargain price, since so little is known. If you have a chance to have the car checked out by a decent MB mechanic beforehand, you could adjust your offer accordinly.

Good luck.

Good luck.

Perhaps, but I've looked at the cars in the MBCA classified several times, and regardless of their pristine condition, many are IMO priced too high.

Sadly supply has far outstripped demand for these cars.

Hmmm, perhaps to the point where I should stock up?
