Nevermind. It was bogus. They had slapped SL500 AMG badges on a 450SL. I called in the VIN. The guy was trying to convince me that it was worth $50,000. So lame. If anyone is in Idaho and sees this it's bogus. Don't buy it!

That kind of stuff really pisses me off. You don't hear about it too much with MB cars but it's real common with collectable muscle cars.

Yeah I wanted to call the cops but I guess it's not illegal to switch the badges. Just the VIN plating.

That car didnt come out until the mid 1980's. It was not offered in the US except on special order and assembly through BHMA, an AMG tuner at the time.

Should be equivalent to "scheming to defraud". There are organized crime guys that are doing time for things like that under RICO.

Hi guys, I was online searching for something else re my car and spotted this link with interest...
I own a 1986 W107 500SL AMG and have never seen another one of these online or in the paper etc. I know you mention the 1973 was a bogus but I was just wondering if you have many other W107 500SL AMG cars in the USA?
Do you think there would be other owners on this forum? I have just joined the forum as I saw the post re the '73 AMG so I know nothing about it.

Yes you will find other 500SL AMG owners in the US here and on benzworld.org.
I own a 500SL (1983). There are no AMG options on this car. I have a 450SLC as well.
