Power Steering Leak
Greetings,
I've slowly started to restore my 560SL that I've got. I'm having trouble with my power steering however. It's got a pretty bad leak, and an odd one at that. It seems to only leak a lot when the car is not running. When I let it sit for a week there's almost no fluid left when checking it. However, if I drive it for a week only about half of my fluid seems to go missing. It seems the leak is coming from the steering box, but I'm unable to locate the actual source. The steering box is just an approximation. I've located a corroded line that was going to the collection tray, and have replaced it, but the leak still continues. Before I go and start replacing the pump/ steering box I was wondering if anyone else has seen this before with this car? Considering mine's got about 209k miles on it, I'm expecting stuff like this to occur, and wouldn't be surprised if it's just my car having the issue.

I thought I had a power steering fluid leak with my 87 560SL and it turned out to be the actual steering box. I had to have it rebuilt. No leaks since. Find a good independent shop and have them look. Those kind of leaks are really hard for the average owner to trace...especially if things have been seeping for years. Good luck!!!
