Hello,

I locked the keys in the trunk of a 1984 380SL. The vehicle is unlocked. I need to get in the trunk ASAP as work computer and files are in the trunk.

I do not want to drill out the lock as I am about to list the car for slake.

I talked to a locksmith. I told him that if I turn the key twice in the drivers door it locks or unlocks the trunk. he told me that he thinks if he takes the door apart he can probably push on the rod and trick the car as long as there is not an electronic switch that verifies there is a key in the lock actually turning the cylinder. Will his plan work? He was not sure so he asked me to post on a forum.

Is there an easier/better way?

Any ideas?

Please respond ASAP as this is a minor emergency.

NO idea. A Mercedes dealer might have the answer.

As far as I know the locks are vacuum activated/released....but I dont know all that much about these vehicles but learning fast.
There is a trunk vacuum line on the passenger side & not sure what it does if you apply vacuum to it. Maybe this allows the trunk to be opened?

If I recall correctly from my 380 days, the driver's door unlocked both ways. One way unlocked just the driver's door and the other way unlocked everything. You possibly had unlocked only the driver's door. You can unlock everything by activating the vac system.
Review the vacuum system diagram. I know some of the vac tubes are accessible under the hood. Draw a vacuum with a hand pump and see if that will unlock it. I had to do that once to get the passenger door unlocked when the tumbler failed.

I had the same issue. Dealer can order a key from MB for you. Do not let a locksmith drill the lock!

I converted my vacuum to electric remote and then locked both remote dongles in the trunk. Had to destroy the trunk lock to get in.
