Day in & Life of an SL

Good morning!

I'm currently not an SL but am very close to pressing the button. I've been in love with the SL - mostly the 560, but a 450 will do

I've reading "The Essential Buyer's Guide - MB 280-560 SL & SLC." It's a great guide, but I'm curious to know personal experiences. If I purchased an SL, it wouldn't be a daily driver. I have a great BMW who also works on Mercedes, but can also refer to a specialist if needed.

I found a 79 450Sl that appears to be in good condition. I've haven't seen it in person but will soon.

Can you please share your experience and any tips the guide may not let me know?

Thank you!

450SL
The North American '79 has the Chrysler designed climate control system that is destined to fail. There are so many upgrades to the 560SL that it is the only model I would consider. I have owned 450s, 280s, 500s and 560s.

Thanks for the info. My preference would be a 560 and that really what I'm looking for. There's a 88 Black/Burgundy that I would like to look at, but the seller seems a bit sketchy. He said on the phone "Bring a certified check and an extra driver cause you're going to drive this home today." I really want the car to receive an inspection before purchase.

Sounds like the stereotypical used car salesman.
Any seller should be willing to have a PPI done at your expense. Here is a member on BenzWorld that avoided buying a POS because of a PPI. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c1...l#post11232226

Thanks for sending the post. Below is what was looking at. I seen a few ads where the engine and or transmission was rebuilt. To me that a red flag as these cars as long as you perform the proper maintenance as supposed to be flawless is that correct assumption???
